I've been operating Project Cheddar for almost 2 years now, and back when I started this site I hooked into the Mochi games feed for the automatic updates. It was a great service, and many developers were using it back then. But over the last two years, the number of top-rated games they provide have been dropping in both quantity and quality. It's forced me to take a look at other options. Well now I think I have one! I've hooked up the automatic uploader to another games feed that should help increase the total number of new games around here. This new feed, in conjunction with the Mochi feed, will help with overall selection.
I'm running the new feed right now, and with it will bring their entire catalogue of games. Even though I filter out all but the most popular games from the feed, there should still be a few hundred new games adding to Project Cheddar now. Obviously there isn't room for them to show on the latest uploaded games list, but you can access them through the category lists up top. Click on a category, and navigate back to the end of the list. Since all these new games have zero votes, they will unfortunately get pushed to the end of the line. So find them, give em a vote, and let's put them in their proper place

Sift Heads World (Act 5) - How many Sift Heads are they up to now? I know this is Act 5, so there's 5 Sift Heads Worlds, but there were other Sift Heads before. Anyways, expect more of the same with this one. Mindless stick figure violence.

Robot Wants Fishy - Third in the series. Robot is on the hunt for yet another pet. I didn't play far enough in to see if Kitty or Puppy make a guest appearance.

Penguin War - A fast-paced tower defense game. I found you should either play highly aggressive and swarm their defenses, or highly defensive and just build mega towers. Don't bother with a middle-of-the-road tactic. |

In non-flash game related news, Elemental - War of Magic will be released on August 24.
Elemental is a turned-based strategy game for the PC. Turn based strategy games are a rare breed now-a-days, so I've been eagerly awaiting this game's release. I'm not only excited because it's a turn-based strategy game, but it's publisher/developer is Stardock, which is one of the few remaining major game developers that I still have faith in in today's corporate gaming market. They support their games for years, so I know any bugs (which always occur in strat games) will be squashed in the months to come. Oh, and it's a fantasy/RPG turn-based strategy game too, which makes it even rarer! Can I finally retire Master of Magic once and for all? I'll find out soon.
Check it out at: elementalgame.com
So back to flash games. Ever since I stopped doing reviews of recommended games, the front page has been looking very bare and unattended. Because of this, I've decide to start doing brief one-sentence comments for some games again. However, I'm not going to do them all, so if I don't list a game, that doesn't mean I don't like it. It just means that I haven't played it enough to comment.

Achievement Unlocked 2 - It's back!!! I've been waiting for this sequel to go public for a week now. It's time to return to the role of an elephant which has no purpose. They got really creative with some of the screens too. Funny creative.

Heir - If you get a seizure from massive in-game screen shaking, perhaps this game won't be for you |

I just transferred all site pointers over to the new server, so if you can read this you're now on the new dedicated server. That means you can now return to posting and voting as usual.
Over the next couple of days I'm going to be ironing out bugs and issues due to this change, so please bear with me. Oh, and if you find any issues yourself, please let me know by posting them in the forum... that is, when I find out where the forum went (The forum is currently down). |

The day has come! I'm currently making a complete copy of Cheddar to be used for the new server. From this point forward all comments, votes, and forum postings will NOT be transferred over to the new server, so don't bother posting anything until the new host is running. Also, no new game updates will occur during this time.
It's going to take some time to upload the entire site to its new home, let alone test it to make sure everything works, so expect this "no post" lockdown to be in effect for a day or two at least. I'll let everybody know when we are on the new site, because if everything works as it's supposed to, you shouldn't notice much of a change... well, hopefully you'll notice the speed difference at least
One last note: Project Edam, Project Bleu, and Project Brie will all be shut down when the new server goes live, so if you haven't transferred to the newer clone sites yet, be sure to do that soon.
See you all on the other side. |

Cheddar's new home (a dedicated server) has been selected and paid for, and is being setup as I type. The transfer to the new server will occur sometime within the next two weeks, and hopefully it will be a smooth process. There will be some changes due to the move however. The most notable being the retirement of the last 3 "cheese" clones sites. Project Edam, Bleu, and Brie are nearing their 1 year anniversary, so I will be retiring them as I transfer the site to its new home.
I'll keep you all updated as I learn more. In the meantime, if you know of any great flash games that belong on this site, please recommend them to me in the forum. I'm always on the lookout for games myself, but I will inevitably miss a few gems.
Oh, and in PC game news: StarCraft II rocks! If you haven't played it yet you're missing out. I hope LAN gets supported in the future though, even if it's an unofficial hack. |

I'd just like to give everybody fair warning that in roughly 30 days Project Cheddar will be moving onto a dedicated server. It's going to be costly, but this switch will help with wait times during peak usage hours. Unfortunately though, this could mean that Cheddar will be offline anywhere from a few hours to a full week.
I'm making the move during the middle of August as that is when traffic is at its lowest all year long, and also so that I can be fully prepared for the rush of the upcoming school year. I do believe the server switch will be worth it in the long run. |

As the summer season is now upon us, I'm going to be wrapping up new clone site creation with this last clone site. Let me introduce Project Fish, whose icon should be familiar among veteran PC gamers. Project Fish represents the final clone site from the "meat" batch.

http://projectfish.info - If all the current clone sites stop working for you, please let me know in the forums. My current plan is to make more clone sites when the new school year begins, or when demand for them really picks up. That should be in a few months at least.
Have a great summer! I'm off to the beach. |
